Liverpool have shown interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria. German outlet SportBild have reported that the Merseyside club have moved to the front of the line in the competition for Zakaria’s signature.
Liverpool currently sit top of the queue for the Swiss midfielder’s signature. However, they face competition from multiple clubs and European giants.
Alongside the Merseysiders, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are also in the running to sign Denis Zakaria.
With Gini Wijnaldum seemingly on his way out of the club, Jurgen Klopp’s side seems the logical option for Denis Zakaria.
Wijnaldum’s contract is set to expire this summer and he looks set to join Spanish side Barcelona.
Alongside Zakaria, Liverpool are being linked with Rodrigo de Paul as a potential Wijnaldum replacement and many others. The club seem like they are willing to spend big on his replacement.
The powerful midfielder suffered a serious knee injury last March and just returned to competitive action in November.
Due to this injury, he is still regaining form and fitness. SportBild say that the midfielder has not yet found his best form since his injury, but his class is “undisputed.”
The midfielder has made 17 appearances across all competitions this season. He has provided one goal and has received four yellow cards. Across these 17 appearances, he has featured less than 800 minutes.
Zakaria to Replace Wijnaldum at Liverpool
Much like Gini Wijnaldum, Denis Zakaria has been offered multiple contract extensions but has so far refused to sign them.
Borussia Monchengladbach have four star players with expiring contracts coming up and the German side risk losing all four of them on free transfers.
Intersting enough, Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl has already signed Zakaria’s apparent replacement. The club signed Kouadio Kone this January from French club Toulouse.
The SportBild report goes on to say that an exit is almost certain, with the chances of him staying at a staggering “10 percent”.
With that being said, it seems that the club have come to terms with Denis Zakaria’s exit this summer.
Unless something changes, the controlling midfielder will be on the move and Liverpool could be his new club.
