Schalke defender Ozan Kabak is reportedly set for a medical at Liverpool according to Sky Sports Vinnie O’Connor.
Sources at Sky Sports Deutschland reported that the Reds were making a loan move for the Turkey international.
The loan move will have a view to be made permanent in the summer.
Initially, it was believed that a deal would be difficult to push over the line as Schalke would require a replacement before their deadline at 5pm UK time.
Kabak is another one that has been linked with a move to Anfield during the course of the month.
It is believed that the Royal Blues have identified a replacement for the 20-year-old.
Liverpool’s deadline day looks set to be a busy one despite it being in it’s infancy.
Preston North End defender Ben Davies has reportedly agreed a fee and will complete his move, later today.
Elsewhere, the Duje Caleta-Car situation is one to keep an eye on. Like Schalke, Marseille are only willing to sell the Croatian if a replacement is found.
Goal’s Liverpool Correspondent Neil Jones tweeted just before 10:30am, he said:
“Still a chance Liverpool bring in a second centre back today.
“Club working on a few targets including Schalke’s Ozan Kabak and Duje Caleta-Car of Marseille.”
Kabak has played 14 times in the Bundesliga as Schalke have suffered a torrid run of form since the restart in 2020.
The Royal Blues sit rock bottom of the Bundesliga with just one win in the league this season
A 4-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim spelt the end of the bad run but they have had three managers since David Wagner was sacked in September 2020.
Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of defenders in January, one of those, Sven Botman, will not be departing this winter.
