Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to be sidelined for five games according to multiple reports.

The 30-year-old limped off with a groin injury inside half an hour as Everton ended their 22-year wait for a win at Anfield.

It became a bitter double blow as the Reds slumped to their four straight home defeat, missing out on the chance to make ground in the race for the top four and also losing their focal point and skipper.

An early Richarlison strike and a late penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson moved the Toffees level on points with Liverpool.

The defeat marks the first time since 1932 that the Reds have lost four straight games at Anfield, an unwanted stat for Klopp and his side.

Burnley ended Liverpool’s four year unbeaten home run in January as Alisson brought down Ashley Barnes who converted from the spot.

The Daily Mail reports that the midfielder will miss as many as five games including Sheffield Utd, Chelsea, Fulham, Wolves and the Champions League second-leg against RB Leipzig.

This news also may disrupt England manager, Gareth Southgate, a headache as he weighs up his midfield options for next month’s World Cup Qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

It also adds to the growing list of casualties in an injury-stricken season for the Champions after Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip fell victim to season-ending injuries.

As it stands Fabinho, Diogo Jota, James Milner and Caoimhin Kelleher are just a few player who are missing through injury.

Following the defeat on Saturday, manager Jurgen Klopp wasn’t optimistic after his captain’s injury, he said:

It doesn’t look good, but we have to wait, of course, for the scan tomorrow, hopefully.

Henderson will go for a scan on his groin/adductor injury on Monday as Liverpool sweat over the extent of the injury.
