“We couldn’t do that too often this season. That’s one reason. We had this one day [to prepare], for us it really makes a massive difference.”

Liverpool v Everton is Intense

The Liverpool manager discussed how Merseyside derbies are always intense and implored his side to remain calm and keep their heads.

“Derbies are historically intense so that means we have to be intense. We have to be calm in the right moments and play football.”

After today’s starting lineups were announced by each side, Jurgen Klopp accused Carlo Ancoletti of playing a game of poker.

“Aha Carlo.. poker face.”

The German went on to say that unity is key for his side to regain their form of the past two seasons.

“As has always been the case since I arrived at LFC, the solution to every problem lies within ourselves. It can be solved on the training ground, in the dressing room, in the analysis meetings and then ultimately on the pitch on a matchday.”

The manager discussed that he saw the events of this season coming ahead of time.

“I always expected the season would be like this. I didn’t expect that we would have the injury issues we have in one critical position, but I knew it would be a campaign where it would be a proper race until the very last inches as we approach the finish line.”

The manager ended his presser on a high note after asking the supporters and squad to keep the faith.
