Liverpool are set to sign not just one but two central defenders on deadline day, Ben Davies from Preston North End and Ozan Kabak from Schalke.
It is understood that Davies’ is a done deal and Kabak’s has agreed ‘in principle’ to join Liverpool.
Both deals are expected to be done before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Ben Davies & Ozan Kabak
For Ben Davies Liverpool will pay just £500,000 up front for the 25-year-old, with an additional £1.1m in add-ons that are understood to include an England international cap clause.
His new potential teammate Kabak has been on Liverpool’s radar since last summer and is seen as a long-term target of the club’s recruitment team. Schalke paid £13m for him in 2019.
It is understood Liverpool will sign Kabak, 20, on a 6-month loan deal for a fee of around £1m plus a potential further £500,000 in extras which rests on appearances and performance in the Champions League.
Come the summer the club will then have an option to permanently buy Kabak for a price of £18m plus add-ons. A bargain seen by many in today’s market.
The reason for the loan seems to be to see if Kabak can live up to the intensity of the Premier League and play Klopp’s style of football. Schalke have been in a state of crisis pretty much all season and have just one win under their belts this season but Kabak looks to be a great player in a bad team.
Should Kabak’s loan fail, we will likely see one of the other highly-rated targets purchased in the summer.
With Davies arriving from Championship club Preston and Kabak from relegation battling Bundesliga side Schalke.
Many fans are optimistic about the players’ potentials to play for the Premier League Champions.
Let’s not forget Andrew Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri were all signed from relegated clubs and those transfer turned out okay.
Jurgen Klopp and his team haven’t failed us with a transfer yet so let’s hope these two important signings settle in quickly and have brilliant careers at Liverpool.
