Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the extent of Joel Matip and Fabinho’s injuries.
They finally broke their duck in 2021 with a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The magnificent and professional performance was capped off with a Sadio Mane’s emphatic finish.
A goal either side of half-time from Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold fired the Reds into a two-goal lead.
However, prior to the game Liverpool were dealt a blow as makeshift defender Fabinho missed the trip to London through a ‘minor muscle issue’.
As a result, the Reds were forced to field a defensive partnership of Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip.
With the teams emerging for the second half, news broke of another injury issue.
Speaking hours after the Spurs win, Jurgen Klopp addressed the concerns: “There’s a glimmer of hope with Joel that isn’t as serious. We will know more in three or four hours.
“Fabinho has no chance for the weekend.”
A massive blow for Liverpool as Fabinho will miss a massive game and the Reds anxiously await the verdict of Joel Matip’s ankle problem
This means Liverpool will have no senior central defenders to face David Moyes side.
The games are coming thick and fast for the reigning Champions with West Ham on Sunday before starting a big February with Brighton, Leicester, Manchester City and Everton to play in the Premier League.
Also next month the Reds face RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
The injuries mark a massive few days for the Champions as the window slams shut in just a couple of days.
Sven Botman, as well as Leipzig duo Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate linked with a move to Anfield.
