Liverpool 1-4 Manchester City: Player Ratings

Liverpool hosted Manchester City tonight in hope of nullifying their recent Anfield blues.

In a 4-1 humiliation, a much-deserved win for City, here are how the players rated.

Mohamed Salah scored for the Reds from the spot but goals from Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden and a Ilkay Gundogan brace saw another away side take the three points from Anfield.

How did the Liverpool players rate?

Alisson Becker 2

Alisson returned tonight to take up his spot between the sticks after missing out the Brighton match midweek. Had an absolutely shambolic game, gifted City their 2nd and 3rd goals and could have done better for the fourth.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 4.5

The Liverpool full-back had a world-class first half. Fizzed out in the second half. 4 goals shipped in, the first of whom he was partially at fault for.

Fabinho Tavares 3.5

We all let out a sigh of relief when we saw Fabinho back in the defence. The Brazilian has arguably been our best defender and perhaps player this season. Like Trent, a good second half, below-average second half.

Gave away a careless penalty in the first half.

Jordan Henderson 3

Some were quite disappointed to see Jordan Henderson playing out of position at centre-back.

Some felt that perhaps it was time to toss Ben Davies or Ozan Kabak into the hotpot that is our season at the moment.

This game desperately missed him in our midfield.

Andrew Robertson 3.5

The same story everywhere. Energetic first half. But that was all. Subbed off for Kostas Tsimikas after Klopp clearly accepted the defeat.

Georginio Wjinaldum 4

Didn’t play progressive football at all. His only highlight was bodying Phil Foden, who had a world-class game apart from that.

Curtis Jones 5

Our 20-year-old scouser returned to the starting 11, surprising many. The only player perhaps, who played his heart out.

Him being subbed for Milner came as a huge surprise, seeing he was our best player.

Thiago Alcantara 3

Booked in the 2nd minute for a bad tackle. Was pretty anonymous since then (apart from a missed free kick) and was rightly subbed off for Shaqiri.

Sadio Mane 4

Another return we were waiting for. The absent of Sadio Mane was strongly felt in the Brighton match after Xherdan Shaqiri failed to deputise on the left wing. Made a few good runs but to no result.

Roberto Firmino 3.5

Was barely present in the field. Nothing more to say.

Mohamed Salah 4

Salah stepped on the pitch tonight hoping to continue his excellent record against Manchester City. He did score from the spot to continue that record but couldn’t penetrate the solid City defence at all.

Xherdan Shaqiri 3

No impact whatsoever

James Milner 3

Felt like a blunder on Klopp’s part to sub him on for Jones.

Konstantinos Tsimikas

Onto Leicester, in the hope of a better performance.
