Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the trio Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Sadio Mané were back in training on Friday.
Alisson missed Liverpool’s home defeat to Brighton with illness as it was not believed to be COVID-related.
A ‘muscle issue’ has seen Fabinho miss the two wins at Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham as well as the Reds second Anfield defeat of 2021 to Brighton.
It was believed that Mane suffered his muscle injury in the 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Seneagalese forward was on the scoresheet in the match.
He was sorely missed in Wednesday’s defeat as Liverpool lacked directness and a threat to Graham Potter’s side.
On Friday night, the trio were pictured training ahead of Sunday’s title clash with leaders Manchester City.
When quizzed on the fitness of the Reds trio, Klopp said (via the official website):
“Ali feels much better, good enough to have an individual session today.
“Sadio and Fab will be in parts of team training today. Then we will see.”
The reigning Champions are seven points off Pep Guardiola’s side with the Citizens having a game in hand over Sunday’s hosts.
Two home defeats in 2021 for Liverpool paint a sorry tale of a stuttering title defence.
In the November return fixture, the two played out 1-1 draw as Gabriel Jesus cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s penalty.
A contentious handball from Joe Gomez gave Kevin De Bruyne a chance to level from the spot, but the Belgian’s penalty uncharacteristically flashed the wrong side of the post.
It’s a must-win at Anfield as Liverpool look to end their winless and goalless spell at home.
