Liverpool are in talks with Preston North End over the transfer of central defender Ben Davies. Daily Mail NW Football reporter Dominic King has reported that Liverpool are in talks over a £2 million transfer that would send Ben Davies to Merseyside.
The Daily Mail reporter also claims that Sepp van der Berg will go on loan to Deepdale.
Liverpool Win Race for Davies
Over the past few days, Ben Davies has been linked with numerous clubs. Davies was rumoured to have signed a pre contract with Scottish Premier League side Celtic F.C. More recently, Burnley offered the defender a lifeline in an attempt to stop his move to the Scottish Giants.
Now, as previously stated, Liverpool have thrown their hat in the rings. Not only have they offered a £2m million transfer fee, but included Sepp van der Berg on loan to sweeten the deal.
Those familiar with EFL Championship claim that Ben Davies is one of the best central defenders in the league. The 25 year-old defender stands at a solid 6’1″.
The English International has featured in 19 matches in the EFL Championship for Preston.
WhoScored list the following as strengths:
- Likes to play long balls
- Plays the ball of the ground often
- Does not dive into tackles
This may not be the glamourous signing that Liverpool supporters wanted, but it seems it is the one they will get.
The defender has passed the ball with 79% accuracy this season and makes just under 40 passes per match. With Liverpool in complete crisis mode, he will surely be welcomed with open arms by the Anfield faithful.
With just one day left until the January transfer window slams shut, this seems to be a story to keep a close eye on. LFC Transfer Room will keep you updated on any new movements.
