Liverpool legend Didi Hamann has defended Trent Alexander-Arnold during his recent dip in form. The English defender has faced a lot of criticism in light of his recent performances.

However, the former Red has labeled the criticism Alexander-Arnold is getting is “ridiculous”.

“If you play on a weekly basis, or every three days, the standard he has set has been exceptional. He has been faultless for two years.”

Didi Hamann speaking about Trent Alexander-Arnold

Much like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Didi Hamann played a large role in Liverpool winning the Champions League.

During the 2005 Champions League final against A.C. Milan Hamann suffered a broken toe but still managed to bury the Red’s first penalty.

The German pundit went on to say,

He has played over 100 games and is only 22. It is understandable that there has been a blip. I expected it to come a lot earlier…

To be specific, the right back has played a total of 156 games for Liverpool’s first team. For only being 22 years-old, that is a massive number.

It is only right that Alexander-Arnold has a down spell. As Didi Hamann pointed out, fatigue has taken a toll on the vast majority of the Liverpool squad and Trent is not immune to this.

“[Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold] have probably been the best two full-backs in the world in the last two years. Once they have a break we will see different players again.”, Hamann said.

Liverpool supporters across the globe will hope that Hamann is correct. The club have endured a period of dreadful form, with the latest loss coming at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester United.

If Didi Hamann’s words are anything to go off of, the Liverpool squad needs just one thing. Rest. The next international break is March 27-28. Mark that on your calendar, Reds.
