The Liverpool linked Florian Neuhaus is one of the hottest prospects in German football right now.
He has been linked with a host of clubs, such as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but more recently Liverpool and Manchester City as reported by Kicker.
So who is Neuhaus and what is his playing style like?
Florian Neuhaus is a 23-year-old Landsberg am Lech born German, just outside of Munich.
When he was younger he joined the 1860 Munich the academy and became a key player throughout their youth ranks.
Even taking them to the semi-finals of the U19 German youth league, only to become unstuck against a Christian Pulisic-led Borussia Dortmund team. He lit up both legs of the semi-finals, most notably scoring an 89th-minute winner from the halfway line. Neuhaus had arrived.
After making his debut for 1860 Munich during the 2016-17 season, he caught the eye of the biggest clubs in Germany, Borussia Monchengladbach, who won the race for his signature.
He was immediately loaned to neighbours Fortuna Dusseldorf. Here he gained first team experience in a Fortuna team and spent a season in the second tier of German football that saw him enjoy success with the club.
His performances for Fortuna signalled he was ready for the Gladbach first team.
Neuhaus has been a key part of Die Fohlen ever since. Registering three goals and nine assists in his first full Bundesliga season with them. But this year under Marco Rose, he has fully taken off and has shown his rich potential.
He earned a Germany call-up and subsequently made his debut on October 7th against Turkey.
This season the midfielder has played 19 times scoring four goals and as many assists, with standout performances against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
In the Borussia Monchengladbach dressing room, Neuhaus sits next to captain Lars Stindl, who plays a slightly higher and advanced role.
This allows Neuhaus to question Stindl on his playing style and learn from one of the best-attacking midfielders in Germany. He has been able to replicate this in his playing style, despite the 23-year-old preferring to play in midfield.
In the Bundesliga, he has been likened to Thomas Müller. With the capability to interpret space, the Landsberg am Lech-born maestro is at his best when making line-breaking passes, a skill he has learned from his Gladbach teammate.
The German midfielder is not just a great passer of the ball, he also has a knack for making late runs into the box.
His finishing ability has considerably improved over the years and this is evident with his effort against FC Augsburg. Already in his repertoire, he has fired. home long-range efforts against Bayern Munich and FC Koln, but his most notable effort came against Mainz last season.
An audacious 40-yard lob over the goalkeeper.
Would he fit in at Liverpool?
Yes. With the likely departure of Gini Wijnaldum, Neuhaus would be an adequate replacement as he offers similar qualities to the Dutchman but also has a greater creative edge, which at times Liverpool are lacking.
The transition in styles of play will also not be impactful as Gladbach play a similar style under Rose as Jurgen Klopp does at the Premier League champions.
It also gives him the opportunity to work under Klopp, which for a young German player allow him to take his game to the next level.
Kicker reports that he has a release clause of €40 million.
