A report in Spain this week has suggested that the Premier League champions are weighing up a move for Antonio Rüdiger this summer. Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Liverpool are interested and one of a number of clubs looking at the Chelsea centre back.
Rudiger to Replace Lovren
Having already signed Greek left back Kostas Tsimikas in an £11.7m deal, the Reds are said to be keen to bolster their defensive options further ahead of the new season. Dejan Lovren departed Anfield for Zenit St Petersburg last month, and now his replacement is set to be to be high on the club’s transfer agenda in the coming weeks.
Chelsea parted with around £29m to bring Rüdiger to Stamford Bridge in 2017. The large price tag came as the German international was held in high regard at the time. The 27-year-old struggled for form and fitness last term however, and could well be a casualty this summer as the Blues look to revamp a backline which leaked 54 goals in the Premier League last season.Embed from Getty Images

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will know Rüdiger well from his time in the Bundesliga and now playing against him in England. On top of that, the defender has previously played alongside Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker in Italy with Roma.
Nonetheless, Liverpool’s attention seems to be fixated on other targets this transfer window, with Brighton’s highly rated Ben White and Real Betis defender Aïssa Mandi among those linked as more viable options.
