Liverpool were in touch with Portuguese side S.C. Braga over a loan move for David Carmo. The Merseyside club made a deadline day move for the young defender, but their move was rejected.
It seems as if he was Liverpool’s number one choice ahead of both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.
The 21 year-old Portuguese centre-back is a quality defender with loads of potential to grow into a ball playing defender.
So far this season, he has been very impressive. Completing 1.8 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game in the Primeira Liga in Portugal.
In comparison, Virgil van Dijk completed 0.6 tackles and 1.0 interception per game this season. Sure, van Dijk does a lot of off the ball defending so he doesn’t have to make tackles, but these numbers are impressive nonetheless.
Will Carmo Join Liverpool?
According to Fabrizio Romano, David Carmo is still considered to be a “serious” option. While the Ben Davies is joining, it is still unsure if it will be Ozan Kabak or David Carmo joining Liverpool.
According to Twenty3sport, the defender has won 75% of the aerial duels he has attempted. He also wins 62% of the defensive duels he attempts.
While Romano says that Liverpool still remain interested in David Carmo, Record Portugal claim that the Reds have been unsuccessful.
The bid that Liverpool made was rumoured to be below the Portugal international’s €30 million release clause. Braga have reportedly said that they will only sell the player if they receive an offer that activates that release clause.
While the transfer window is set to close in just mere hours, there is still plenty of time to get the deal over the line. Liverpool have been very active today and will continue to be until the window slams shut at midnight. Stay tuned and make sure to check with LFC Transfer Room.
