Liverpool set to take on Manchester United with a missing Joel Matip and a Jordan Henderson starting at centre-back. What does this mean for the Reds?

The main topic of discussion this whole week has been surrounding the Cameroon international and his fitness concerns, but he seems to still be struggling with an injury as Klopp has decided to completely leave him out of the squad for today’s match again Manchester United.

Whether he will be available the coming week or not, Liverpool need to act quick on the transfer market if they plan to challenge for the league this season, with midfielders having to fill in the gap of defenders being a ridiculous call that can make or break the Reds tittle chances.

Jordan Henderson to the rescue?

Jordan Henderson is set to start alongside Fabinho today as a centre-back, something not many of us expected. The captain has proven that he is up for the task when needed, and although he is ‘okay’ at it, Manchester United will try their best to attack Liverpool through their weakness, in this case the Reds captain.

Could this push Liverpool into the transfer market?

A bad result could potentially break Liverpool’s record in home games, and will strike our chances at challenging for the title, but could a bad display also bring positive news?

Today’s performance could be crucial for the Reds, a bad performance at the back most likely means that Klopp cannot risk playing midfielders when our centre-backs are injured, I mean this shouldn’t even be a thing.

With a couple weeks left in the transfer market this could be an eye opener for Klopp and co. and the Reds could take their chances in players like Roman Saiss who is available for close to 5 million, or even Eder Millitao who is available on loan from Madrid.

Whatever happens today, it will be a crucial matchday for Liverpool. Win and continue our battle for retaining the Premier League title with a shortage of defenders, Draw and let United increase their gap on top of the Reds as they challenge theirselves for the title, or lose and jump straight into the window in search of a centre-back that can patch things up and help the Reds savior their season, hopefully.

Up the Reds!
