Liverpool missed the opportunity to sign Sven Botman on deadline day. The deal for the Lille defender was considered “difficult”.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool wanted to include striker Divock Origi in the deal. Not only that, but there were multiple other pieces involved in the deadline day transfer move.
Lyon defender Marcelo reported down a six month contract to join Lille, and that saw Sven Botman’s Anfield move come to an end.
Many Liverpool supporters were upset to see Minamino leave on loan while Divock Origi stayed.
Liverpool Sign Kabak and Davies
Ultimately Liverpool signed two defenders on deadline day, but they did not get their number one target in Sven Botman.
The Reds signed Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies. Ozan Kabak joined on a six month loan with an option to buy for £18 million. His loan fee is rumoured to have cost the Reds £1 million.
Kabak’s former club, Schalke wanted an obligation to buy, but Michael Edwards managed to negotiate them down to an option to buy.
Ben Davies, on the other hand, joined Liverpool on a permanent deal. The Preston defender joined for a £2 million fee and signed a long term contract. Preston managed to include a 20% sell on clause in the contract.
I love a lot about his play. He’s a really good footballer, looks like a proper leader in this Preston teamLiverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp on Ben Davies
Sven Botman has been a long term target of Jurgen Klopp’s for some time now. However, it is unsure if the Reds will show any interest in the Lille defender this summer. With two central defenders joining on deadline day, the club now have an abundance of centre halves.
