Liverpool look set for a special summer after priotitising signing high profile academy players this January. While Liverpool Football Club have been publicly working on signings to bolster their academy, the club have been privately plotting for a massive summer window.

Liverpool’s interest in Fluminense forward Kayky and Derby County’s Kaide Gordon has been no secret.

What has been a secret, is that Fenway Sports Group have decided to back Jurgen Klopp in bringing in a host of top talent. First on the list is no other than Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Reports have been circling around that Mbappe is desperate to sort out his future. This has put Liverpool on alert and Klopp is very keen to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.

Liverpool’s main competitors for Mbappe’s signature, Real Madrid, do not have the funds available to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain. On the other hand, the Merseyside club have been prudent with their finances which has set them up to make a summer splash.

Liverpool to sign Defender

Next on the docket for Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp is RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. Klopp regards Upamecano as a natrual partner for Virgil can Dijk when the Dutshman returns from his injury.

The Reds made inquiries on the French defender but were told to come back in the summer. RB Leipzig have made him available in the summer for a cut price of just £37.4 million.

If Michael Edwards cannot negotiate a deal for Upamecano, he will look to sign fellow Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

After the club strengthen their back line, they will look to improve their depth. With Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri lilnked with moves away from the club, Klopp will want improvements.

One eye to keep an eye on is Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. The young Brazilian has struggled for game time in the Spanish capital and has been made available. The galacticos are attempting to raise funds for Mbappe and Vinicius has been contacted by Liverpool’s representatives.

While supporters have urged the club the sign a central defender this month, doing so could disrupt an amazing summer window. The question remains, will Liverpool get through this bad spell and remain an attractive destination?
