Liverpool start Xherdan Shaqiri has turned down a potential transfer that would have seen him join Hertha Berlin.
The Swiss international has been linked with an Anfield exit for the past three windows in search of play time, has turned down a move to play in Germany.
The Pál Dárdai managed Hertha Berlin side currently sits 14th on the Bundesliga table. Alongside Xherdan Shaqiri, Hertha Berlin are also targeting Ivan Perisic and Christian Erikson, both who play for Inter Milan.
For the case Perisic and Erikson, it came down to salary demands being too high. This was not the case with Liverpool’s Shaqiri.
The 29 year-old reportedly had no interest in being apart of a relegation battle. Even though the winger has struggled for minutes this season, he opted to not even hold talks with Hertha Berlin.
Xherdan Shaqiri has featured just 11 times for Liverpool this year across all competitions but just six come from the Premier League. These 11 opportunities have seen him play for less than 500 minutes (477).
In his limited match time, the Swiss winger has scored one goal and provided three assists. Unfortunately, he has also accumulated two yellow cards in his six Premier League appearances.
Liverpool Winger a Wanted Man
As previously stated, Shaqiri has been the talk of multiple transfer rumours in the past.
Most recently, he was linked with a move to Lazio in the Italian capital of Rome. Lazio’s sporting director reportedly “fell in love” with Shaqiri while he was at Basel and has been in pursuit of him ever since.
It is not known whether he will be at the Merseyside club past this summer, as Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp push for several major signings. Liverpool will look to accumulate as much transfer capital as possible and Shaqiri could be one to go.
