Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged the club to sign Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

This statement was backed by Jamie Carragher, as he said Liverpool move on from one of their front three this summer.

“Roberto Firmino’s form has been a concern for some time, so I would encourage Liverpol to do all they can to sign Erling Haaland next summer”

Aldridge’s comments come on the back of Roberto Firmino’s poor run of form in recent weeks. Many Liverpool supporters have been crying out for a natural finisher to replace the Brazilian.

Roberto Firmino is a bit of an enigma for Liverpool. Thought of by many as the engine of the Reds and painted as someone who stats do not apply to.

The Brazilian has had praise lauded on him for his movement and how frees up the rest of the squad. However, this movement has not lead to goals.

Firmino vs. Haaland

Roberto Firmino has played a total of 28 games for Liverpool this season, 19 of which have come from the Premier League. In those 19 League matches, he has scored five times and assisted three times.

That has amassed to a Premier League goal every 304 minutes. For one of the best sides in the world, that number is simply not good enough.

He’s strong, direct, great in the air and a brilliant finisher. On top of that, he is young and hungry. Which is what Liverpool need in a team that has lost a little of its bite amid their current slump.

John Aldridge on Erling Haaland

In comparison, Erling Haaland has made 13 Bundeliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season and has scored 14 goals and assisted two times.

Having played 428 less league minutes than Firmino, the Norwegian striker has had eight more goal involvements.

With Liverpool’s attacking trio looking a shadow of their old selves, supporters will agree with club legends Jamie Carragher and John Aldridge that change is needed.

Will Liverpool listen to their critics and bring in Erling Haaland?
