Liverpool have high expectiations for Ozan Kabak and expect that he could have an Andy Robertson-like impact on the squad.
The Journey to Liverpool
The club believe that Kabak, much like Andy Robertson, was sort of drowning at FC Schalke 04. Before signing with Liverpool, Andy Robertson had four different managers. This is significant because the Scotsman was only at Hull City for three years.
The managers that he played under were: Steve Bruce, Mike Phelan, Marco Silva, and Leonid Slutsky. The club was in a constant state of disarray. In Robertson’s final season with The Tigers, his side finished in 18th place in the Premier League.
This saw Hull City get relegated to the EFL Championship. However, when he joined Liverpool everything seemed to come together.
Liverpool believe that this can be the same path for newcomer Ozan Kabak.
Since joining FC Shalke 04 in June of 2019, Kabak has had four different managers. He has played under sides managed by David Wagner, Manuel Baum, Huub Stevens, Christian Gross. One thing that is clear is that none of these managers are fit to lace Jurgen Klopp’s boots.
Much like Robertson’s Hull City, Ozan Kabak’s time at Schalke has been a mess. The club currently sit in last place in the Bundesliga with just eight points from 19 matches played.
Klopp Can Showcase Kabak’s Talent
One would say that the similarities between the journey that Andy Robertson and Ozan Kabak took before joining Liverpool are uncanny.
The young centre back has loads of talent that was unfortunately not able to be seen during his Bundesliga campaign thus far. The Schalke side have had three managers this season alone and have not been able to establish any consistency.
This is much like Andy Robertson whose talent and performances were overshadowed by the poor calibre of play of his teammates.
If Ozan Kabak can be even a fraction of the player that Andy Robertson has become at Liverpool, than Michael Edwards has gotten another gem on his hands.
