In a very entertaining match, Liverpool beat a resilient Leipzig side, who made very costly mistakes which ultimately created the two goals.

Champions League football returned tonight after 2 months, with the Round of 16 kicking off with two clashes, the Barcelona-PSG one in Camp Nou, Spain and, of course, the Leipzig-Liverpool one in the Puskas Arena, Budapest.

Due to German flight restrictions, the match which was originally due to be played in Red Bull Arena had to be shifted to the Hungarian capital.

Here are the player ratings.

Alisson Becker 7.5

Still looked shaky from the last 2 matches, as evident from his passing. However, he grew into the game and even made a vital save against Nkunku.

Hopefully, the clean sheet will give our Brazilian keeper his confidence back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8.5

Our right-back is continuing his good form with another well-balanced performance, brilliant in defence, and comfortably going forward.

Ozan Kabak 8

A welcome choice, with most of us hoping that the young Turk won’t be dropped after his unfortunate Premier League debut last weekend.

He has clearly let go of that and put in a very good performance against the club from his former league, looking way too comfortable for a 20-year-old playing just his second game for his new club.

Jordan Henderson 8

What a defender! Henderson could be heard throughout the game and put in more than a convincing shift at his makeshift position. Seemed to win every header in the pitch tonight.

Andrew Robertson 8

So, so consistent, the Scottish skipper. Was part of a very well managed Liverpool backline and even got a goal, almost, shooting from his own half after finding Gulasci out of position.

Thiago Alcantara 8

The Spaniard was the only change from last weekend’s lineup, coming in for the injured James Milner. He put in a much improved performance and even refrained from making stupid tackles (we are going to let the first 60 seconds of the match slide….). Substituted for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Georginio Wjinaldum 8

Was an absolute unit in our midfield tonight, although not that prominent .

Curtis Jones 8.5

What a youngster! Was everywhere on the pitch, and looked so much mature for his age.

Sadio Mané 8

Missed an open header in the first half but made up for it with a goal in the second. Should have had a hattrick if he got the header and didn’t micontrol Salah’s scrumptious pass.

Roberto Firmino 8

Even thought not seen easily, Firmino had a world class game. Could have been on the scoresheet as well if he, again, finessed his finishing. Substituted for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Mohamed Salah 9

He made a promise to us, he delivered! He latched onto a Leipzig error and opened the scoreline and almost got an assist as well. Was a constant threat throughout the game. 24 goals in all competitions for our Egyptian King. Substituted for Neco Williams.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 5

Very weak night our, kept on losing the ball cheaply.

Xherdan Shaqiri 5.5

Didn’t impact the game much but was okayish.

Neco Williams N/A
