In the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, Liverpool beat RB Leipzig in a convincing 0-2 victory. After a poor run of form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, this win was a needed boost of confidence.

RB Leipzig Manager talks to the press after his 0-2 loss to Liverpool.

After the match, the RB Leipzig players and manager shared their reactions to the press.

“Of course, we’re very disappointed with the defeat. For long stretches of the game, we put in a decent performance and had two or three good opportunities. Unfortunately, we started the second half with two individual mistakes.”

Marcel Sabitzer on individual mistakes

Liverpool know that individual mistakes can be costly all too well. The Reds looked to be comfortably crusing to a win in their Premier League matchup with Leicester before individual errors by Alisson Becker.

After the midfielder talked to the press, RB Leipzig’s manager Julian Nagelsmann took his place at the podium.

“We played a good game in the second half and created a lot of chances. We made two big mistakes, which get punished at this level. However, what’s worse is that we didn’t make the most of our chances.”

The RB Leipzig manager went on to mention that mistakes are apart of the game but he felt that the final score did not do his side justice.

“Unfortunately, mistakes are a part of this sport and can happen. Overall, though, it was a good game from us. We weren’t two goals worse than Liverpool. We’ll have to make up for those two goals in the second leg.”

Looking Forward To Playing Liverpool Again

Much like Jurgen Klopp, Julian Nagelsmann is already focused on the second leg.

“We have to catch up with these two goals in the second leg. It still starts at 0-0 and we want to try to keep up and take advantage of one or the other chance. We can’t afford to make any mistakes.”
